Week 4

This weeks blog is about blood clots and how they can be stopped and prevent a stroke by using
Magnetic nanoparticles! The technique that researchers are planning to use is putting the magnetic nanoparticles into drugs that would destroy blood clots. it is currently being tested with human and mouse blood but have not started clinical trials. trials would begin if the test on the blood work comes out fairly good. If this works, this new drug would destroy blood clots 100 to 1,000 times faster then the regular method they use now.

Week 3

Researchers in the Netherlands are in the process of creating a biopsy robot the combines the imaging of  ultrasounds and MRI's. With this robot, there is a better chance of diagnosing breast cancer and muscle cancer. Some flaws to this robot is that it is very expensive and takes up about 30 to 40 minutes per patient. But it is very beneficial because current screening can either miss diagnose a patient  or screening fail to miss the tumor and the patient can wrongly get the information that they are not sick

Second Life

In my Computer Concepts class, we were assigned to find out information about a online virtual reality environment called Second Life. I decided to try it out to see exactly what it was about. I was pretty interested when I signed up for one. At first glance, it looks like a game, but when you spend a little time on it, it kinda wasn't. you get to choose your avatar, and you can change it to your liking. you can meet people from around the world and interact with them. the avatar can teleport to different places whenever you please.

I would recommend people to check it out if they were interested. It definitely keeps you entertained if you have nothing to do.

Week 2

The Helen DeVos Children's Hospital team have come together and are using 3D printing to replicate the heart of a patient. They us MRI's and CT scans for imagines and then use a 3D printer to print the image of the patients heart. they use the print to help diagnose and determine what is wrong with the heart. the print is also used to help make a visual surgical plan to fix the heart. Pretty Neat!!

Week 1

I found this tech article very interesting! It states that using new laboratory technology, scientists have found that there has been cellular damage in patients after getting a CT scan. These scans are used for internal imagery with actually having to cut a patient open to see what is going on with their health. they found that the concern is that the scans exposes the patients to radiation, which can cause DNA damage and can cause the damaged cells to grow into tumors.

Introduction

I'm Tania Vasquez and I am taking CIS 120 because it is required  for my prerequisites. I am looking forward to more computer skills because I know that it will be needed for my career in nursing. I have basic computer skills but i know that i need this class and possibly another to fully understand how to use the computer.
